Abstract

Heavy equipment is an essential element in supporting mining activities and large-scale construction projects. In its operation, heavy machinery requires a cooling system that functions to maintain the working temperature at an optimal level, ensuring stable and durable engine performance. One of the most commonly used cooling systems is the liquid-type cooling system. Due to the absence of a teaching aid that can visually and applicatively explain the working principles of a cooling system in the Fundamental Engine System course, the author designed and developed a General Engine Cooling System simulation tool as a learning medium. This simulation tool was designed through several stages, namely literature study, system design, component selection (radiator, water pump, thermostat, heater), as well as assembly and testing of the overall cooling system. The results of the development of the Engine Cooling System teaching aid were consistent with the design, both functionally and visually. This was evidenced by the tool’s ability to simulate the flow of cooling fluid in accordance with the working principles of an engine. Furthermore, learning observations indicated an increase in students’ understanding by 0.5 based on the normality test results. The average pre-test score was 77.83, while the average post-test score reached 95.45, thereby surpassing the minimum competency standard of 80.
